Interview to my mother

Answering your question about how my life was at school. First of all I started my life in elementary school without having done preschool like you. In my case, I started studying immediately first grade with a previous preparation from one of my sisters. She taught me to read, write, and numbers (add, subtract), which helped me a lot. I started studying at about 8 years old at a school called Escuela Aurelio Tobón (Copacabana) that was four blocks from the house, I walked with 3 sisters every day to school. I was a shy and quiet girl, but very responsible and respectful, and this made me go a little unnoticed at school, but being a very good student. I lived a very nice elementary school, with games and accompaniment with the teachers, we had one teacher per group who gave us all the classes. We used to do a lot of chores at home, like cutting newspaper things to make billboards, draw, color, look for flowers and animals in the field. We planted a lot, at that time the tasks were to go a lot to nature, to experience. This made us play a lot, I got very dirty at home, it was very funny because there was always a story to tell at home. The first three years were a lot of play. We had a teacher who punished us by hitting us with a ruler or standing up until the classmate behaved well. The school was feminine, also all the teachers were women. In elementary school they made me a lot of bullyng for being a quiet and weak girl, so instead of fighting, I let myself be bothered. But this did not affect my personality, I was a very good student and I won a scholarship from the fourth grade until I finished school. At that time, fifth grade was not in the same school, it was in high school, also female. In my case, half of the high school was with women, and the other half with men as well, so we had the opportunity to share 6 months with men before high school. I did my high school in a different school, San Luis Gonzaga, a public school. I started a scholarship for being a good student. The academic requirement was much higher, with laboratories, workshops, writing, summaries, group work and a lot of homework, sometimes we had to stay up late doing homework. I loved math, chemistry and physics. At that time there was only one laboratory and it was not very modern, so we fought to be able to all be there learning. In sixth and seventh grade I studied in the morning and then we started studying in the afternoon, which was for the older students. The San Luis Gonzaga school was very far from the house so we had to walk 40 minutes from the house to be able to arrive on time because the rector of the school was very strict with punctuality and if we did not arrive at school before 7, they close the door . So I got up early with my brothers so I could be on time. The day was from 7am to 1pm in sixth and seventh grade. In eighth and ninth grade it was from 1pm to 6pm. We arrived very tired at home to do chores and housework, organize the house, the kitchen and iron the clothes, we also did chores in the morning. Eighth and ninth was a time of much socialization and quite a few sports activities. I always ranked first academically. The best students per group raised the flag and were recognized each month representing each grade. There was a tribute to the flag, civic acts, theatrical, musical and poetry performances, or guests were brought in to give lectures. I was fortunate to raise the flag several times, which imposed a lot of respect on the rest of the classmates. In ninth grade I represented my group in an artistic folklore activity, a folklore reign, each queen in each group represented a department showing the entire culture and history of that department through parades. I represented the Caribbean, showing all its cultural wealth. We won first place. Going to tenth and eleventh grade was very mature, we had very consolidated groups, we were young people with very good relationships. They also did many sports activities. English was also important but they changed it for French, so I didn't have the opportunity to learn much English. I had the opportunity to choose the electives and I chose accounting and administration, where I discovered that management profile that I had all my life, which helped me define my professional life. In eleventh grade I was the best bachelor of the school and had a very good relationship with everyone, I was very serious, I did not like going to parties, I had a boyfriend and I had a disease that made it difficult for me to finish eleventh, I suffered autitis so they made me a surgery on the eardrum. They also allowed me to take all the exams in order to graduate. They postponed graduation due to a layoff, so the graduation ceremony was in February 1985, when they named me the best bachelor, which was a great joy for my parents. It was a few years that I really enjoyed. We also hiked to the coast, but it was different, we did the activities ourselves, we sold food, we made raffles and neighborhood parties to collect funds to pay for the excursion. My dad gave me permission because one of my brothers went with me. On that walk I met the sea and it was super fun.
